Education
Mr. Marlin had his total education, from Primary school to Mulo, HBS and Pedagogische Akademie (Teachers’ Training College) in Curaçao.
After having achieved his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1971, he started his career as a teacher at the Margriet School in Curaçao, where he taught for about two years prior to moving to St. Maarten.

Career
Mr. Marlin has a career as a school teacher and as a politician. In 1976 he was appointed principal of the Leonard Conner School. Mr. Marlin also taught Math’s and Social Studies at the Pre School Teachers Program and was a teaching coach at the St. Maarten Teachers Training School. From 1979 to 1986 he was a Member of the Coordinated Tests Committee and of the Admittance Committee for examination and admission of pupils from Primary School to High School. He has also been the President of the Windward Islands Teachers Union.
From 1978 till 1990 he has been Editor Publisher of the CHAMPIONS Sports Magazine on St. Maarten.
In 1978, Mr. Marlin was co-founder of the Political Party St. Maarten Patriotic Movement. From 1987 till present he has been uninterrupted in political office as elected official in functions, such as Island Council Member and Commissioner of the Island Territory of St. Maarten, Member of Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles and Vice-President of the Committee for Environment and Tourism of the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
As a member of the St. Maarten Political Steering Group he was leader of the St. Maarten delegation at the Round Table Conference of the countries and Island Territories within the Kingdom of the Netherlands in September 2010.

Mr. Marlin is the leader of the National Alliance and as such, since October 10, 2010, he was faction leader of the faction of the National Alliance in the Parliament of St. Maarten. On May 21, 2012 he was sworn in as Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure of St. Maarten.

Interests
Particularly volleyball has been Mr. Marlin’s longtime main interest, appearing from his many board functions in volleyball organizations. He has also been a board member of the St. Maarten Boxing Association. Other hobbies are cooking, bellotte and domino.
